The Gospel of John for Youth
And Those New To The Lord
Commentary by Pastor Ron
Beckham
Prayers, Chapter
by Chapter:
Chapter 1 – Dear
God, help us to see that the man Jesus is the Christ, the
Son of God. End our confusion. Let us be like John the
Baptist, who pointed to Jesus and not to himself. Help us to
bring others to the Lord and help them to follow Him. In
Jesus Name. Amen.
Chapter 2 – Lord,
we understand that You care about our needs. When we marry
or do anything else in life, You are with us, helping us. We
know that You are holy and will judge sin. You see us as we
really are. Deliver us from our sins. Please come into our
hearts. We trust in You, Lord. In Jesus Name. Amen.
Chapter 3 –
Father, let us be like Nicodemus, who came to Jesus and
listened to Him. We pray that we will be like John the
Baptist, who wanted Jesus to be seen more and himself to be
seen less. We believe in the Son of God. Let us have the
life that only God can give. Thank You. In Jesus Name. Amen.
Chapter 4 – Lord,
please give us Your “living water.” And we ask that You will
answer our questions, our needs, just like You responded to
that woman by the well. Open the Bible to us and heal our
hearts, through the power and love of God. In Jesus Name.
Amen.
Chapter 5 –
Father, the question is asked, Do we WANT to be healed?
Change us so that our highest need will be revealed – to
TRUST in the Son of God. We believe in Him now. Let us
search the Scriptures and find eternal life. In Jesus Name.
Amen.
Chapter 6 – Lord,
when we encounter situations that are too great for us, let
us not be discouraged, but instead look to You in prayer.
Help us to need “signs” less and instead believe more in Him
whom God has sent. We give our hearts to Jesus,
understanding that He is the Bread of Life. Thank You for
drawing us to the Son. We trust in Him now. In Jesus Name.
Amen.
Chapter 7 –
Father, help us to not merely judge people by the way they
look, but let us greet each other with the love that comes
from God. We look to the works of Jesus and we know that
healing is possible for us. Thank You, Lord, that You are
doing a great work inside of us. We praise Your Holy Name.
In Jesus Name. Amen.
Chapter 8 –
Father, help us to not throw “stones” of harsh words at
others, but instead see them as You do. Let us truly see
that Jesus is the “light” of the world and we can never
“see” except in Him. Help us to abide in the Words that come
from God. Set us free in Christ. In Jesus Name. Amen.
Chapter 9 – Lord,
heal our blindness and give us “eyes” that see the good
things of God. Increase our faith in the Son of God and help
us to love one another. In Jesus Name. Amen.
Chapter 10 – Lord
Jesus, You are “the Door to the sheepfold.” We trust in You
now, and see that there is no other way into the “sheepfold”
except through You. Thank You for giving Your life that we
may live. We believe in You, Lord. In Jesus Name. Amen.
Chapter 11 – Dear
God, we understand that even if we die, You will restore us
and give us life. Help us to be people who understand the
needs of others and comfort them in their grief, just as
Jesus did. We love You, Lord. Thank You that in Jesus
Christ, we are SAFE – forever. In Jesus Name. Amen.
Chapter 12 – Help
us to understand, Lord, that the very best we can do in life
is to give our hearts to You. We dedicate our lives to You,
understanding that all that we have, all that we are – is
Yours. Give us eyes that see. Bring us out of the darkness
of this world. In Jesus Name. Amen.
Chapter 13 - Lord,
open our eyes to the needs of people. Let us love enough to
actually delight in “washing feet” by helping others. We
notice, Lord, that Judas’ feet were among those You washed.
Help us to love even those who betray us. Help our trust in
God to grow and be seen by others, so they will want you,
too. We want to really care; to love one another, like You
have loved us. Please forgive us and heal us. Thank You. In
Jesus Name. Amen.
Chapter 14 – Help
us, Lord, to not be troubled, but to see that Jesus Christ
is the way, the truth and the life. Show us the wonder of
answered prayer. Help us to not feel like orphans, but to
know that we are Yours. Open the Word of God to us and let
us know Your peace. In Jesus Name. Amen.
Chapter 15 – Lord,
we pray that we will accept the “pruning” necessary in our
lives. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit and help us to keep the
commandments of God by loving one another. Thank You that
You call us “friends.” If trouble comes, we know You will be
with us and get us safely through. We praise Your Holy Name
and thank You. Amen.
Chapter 16 – Thank
You, Lord, for sending us Your Spirit, who guides us into
the truth and reveals what is to come. Help us, Lord, to ask
in prayer that we may have joy. Thank You for being with us
in our trouble and we praise You, that You have overcome the
world. In Jesus Name. Amen.
Chapter 17 – Lord,
to know the Father and the Son is to have eternal life. Let
our lives bring glory to God. Help us to be one in Your
love, even as the Father and the Son are one. Let us always
be with You and see Your glory. We pray that others will see
the Son in us and want Him, too. In Jesus Name. Amen.
Chapter 18 –
Father, many do not want to come to the Lord Jesus and trust
in Him. Some seem to be believers, but then betray Him. Even
some who do want Him, are upset by life and fall away for a
time. But You know our hearts and when, like Peter, we come
back to You, we are forgiven because of Your love. Forgive
us, Lord, including the times we denied You. In Jesus Name.
Amen.
Chapter 19 – Thank
You, Lord, for Your love. You love us so much that You died
a criminal’s death on the cross for our sins. The
inscription at the top of the cross should have been mine.
Thank You that so many prophesies came true, in Your life,
death and resurrection. We know that we can trust You. Thank
You for giving everything for us. In Jesus Name. Amen.
Chapter 20 – Lord,
even though the disciples, like all Jews of that time,
studied the Old Testament all of their lives, they still did
not understand. We confess that we often do not understand,
also. Eye witnesses saw the empty tomb of Jesus, heard the
risen Savior’s voice, and touched Him. Help us to believe
the evidence of the Words in Scripture and believe in Him.
In Jesus Name. Amen.
Chapter 21 – Thank
You for showing us that Jesus knows our needs, our problems
and our weaknesses, but He loves us anyway. Thank You that
ordinary people like us can be useful to show the world the
love and the glory of God. Thank You for forgiving us our
sins and showing us that we are acceptable to God. Give us
the courage to say, “Yes, Lord” to You. In Jesus Name. Amen.
